foreman left us... just wondering if someone has a good link to some sag charts and a formula for finding ruling span... not looking for transmission lengths ... small system lengths from 150 to 300' mostly looking at 1/0 raven and 336 merlin... used to just sag till it looked tight... I looking at a more accurate way of doing things. located in Wisconsin so icing is a factor...:) thanks...

To find your ruling span:
find the average of all spans say 275'
take the longest span and subtract the average span then find 2/3 of this
say longest is 350 so 350-275=75'
75'*2/3=50'
then add this number to your average span this is your ruling span
275+50=325'
Ruling span=average span + 2/3(longest span - average span)

Just have to ask.....Where did you learn that formula? It seems that everyone has a different one they use and this one matches what I was taught. I do not know where it originated but it works well on our system.

That's what we used at Entergy, unless the engineers specified on the job print...due to Ice loading.........but a lot od small jobs...say 20 spans or so......then the Calibrated EyeBall was used!
