My hometown is Live Oak. I've posted pics before, but the most beautiful pics are that of the Suwannee River and the live oaks with their natural lace of spanish moss.
Then we have the Spirit of the Suwannee River Jam that brings in many national performers to the town and folks from 4 states or further, come to visit to see the performances.

Live Oak has had it's days of bad publicity and court days. I heard the Ruby McCollum story as a teenager growing up. I remember walking past her house (wooden two story) and thinking how different life was back then. I heard tell that a book was written about her, but to this day can not be found in the local library.

Then there is the story of Ted Bundy and his killing of young university girls back in the '70s. This was also during the time I was a teenager. A young girl was taken from Lake City (neighboring town---just over 20 miles away), and found in a pig pen just the other side of Hwy 90 near the Suwannee River. That was just over 10 miles from my home. His court day took place in Live Oak in 1987 by a local lawyer, Victor Africano. I remember many people in an uproar over a local lawyer defending a mass murderer. Eventually, they would have to move the proceedings to another area.

If anyone needed the chair, it was this man, Ted Bundy.
On brighter notes and days, I've spent many wonderful days on our farm, on the Suwannee, where the days were peaceful and fun. I no longer live near Live Oak, but I still think it was a nice place to grow up. Like most hometowns, you have your good, your bad, and your really ugly.

Are you related to Collins Logging? He's based on the Suwanee.

This is where I grew up, on the Mohawk river.
You'll have to dig up your own pictures, because I have no idea how to put any on here.

Small town with just over 6000 people and only 8 square miles! We are right on the N.H. border.

East Kilbride in Scotland. I'll just post the Wikipedia link.

Strange coincidence that I found my tin whistle yesterday and ironically the top picture on the wikipedia page is of the Old Parish Church where I played the tin whistle in the BB's (Boys Brigade) a youth military organisation.

Cool Harry. When you lived in Live Oak, were you doing linework? Wonder if the Boss knows your dad. Anyway, it's still a smalltown, and most folks still know someone that might know ya. :D We've been gone since 2002 and we still run into folks and they say, "What in the heck happened to you guys? Haven't seen you in years. Did you fall off the face of the earth or what?" Almost. :D

Yeah, so does the Boss. Drives me bonkers, but he just sits and laughs at them. :D I asked once, "Are they that stupid dear? Or is this just hillbilly entertainment?" The Cajun dude makes me laugh though. Crocodille Dundee has nuttin' on that dude. I keep thinking I'd ask Koga to look him up for an autograph for me. :D
I probably could do that. The man on my truck at work has a camp right down the bayou from Shelby and knows him. Has offerd to take me down to meet him. Might take the brother up on it soon.

It's a deal then! When you meet Shelby, tell him there is a Florida Gator woman that wants his autograph. Should I send you a Gator cap Koga? Or better yet, get a cap from your work, have Shelby sign it and send it to me.
Btw, ya'll need to help Shelby. His floater crain turned slap over last night. :D I suwannee, that man cracks me up. Outtah all dem dar loggers, he is my favorite. (all said with an exaggerated southern accent----and even better than Poot would)

Wow, what a pretty fall picture. I noticed that Fredricksburg, TX looked like Live Oak. Live Oak hasn't changed much in the past 20 yrs. A few stores here and there, but no major changes to the old buildings down main street. Suwannee Ave is where the pretty old houses are.
It's nice to have your old hometown considered quaint and charming Hunter.
