3rd generation lineman

I live in WV and am currently enrolled in a line mechanic class. I would ideally like to work with a local utility, (Allegheny power or AEP), but those jobs arent coming around every day. Im now accepting the fact i might have to spend some time with the contractors. I would just like some input on the different companies. Pike, C.W. Wright, Elliot, Richardson Wayland...

you want to ever have a chance of putting a 4th generation lineman into the world. Not sure how long you have been on the boards here but Pike has hurt/killed alot of young guys.

I have not heard of the other companies you mentioned being that I'm out West. It doesn't matter if it's union or not the electricity doesn't give 2 shits about you so make sure the people you are working with have their heads screwed on straight.

Good luck,
C

There are no safer contractors than UNION contractors!

Gotta throw the BS card out on that one. Union does not make someone safe but proper attitude, knowledge, work ethic, and work practices make someone a safe worker. Just because the union may help ensure there are better tools available and better training does not make the individual use or learn things any better.

I agree with some of what you are saying.
