I am not sure if this is the right section to post this but I already tried on the PreApprentice/Wanna Be section and didn't get much feedback. Was hoping to get some more from you guys that have been in the game for a while.

I had a few questions that I was hoping could get answered on here. First off, if I am not able to attend the NLC I have a full time job for a phone company and just can't afford to drop 10G on it. What would be the second best option for me for experience with a full time job. I am a phone man now and climb alot and work on the poles alot (not as high up as you guys) but want to get some elctrical skills under my belt to help out my resume. I have 4 years telephone repair experience and live in California. I am just about to get my CDL to help me out as well. I just want to be continually building my skills as long as I am waiting to get an interview somewhere.

Any thoughts or advice on what I should be doing would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I reckon If I were in your shoes I would try like hell to get into the apprenticeship program thru your nearest Outside local union. Prolly gonna be a pay cut involved for a spell, Make sure you can weather that storm before you even apply. A simple phone call to the union will get you the prevailing wage rate for an apprentice. But there will also be a long long line of applicants.
