I think Ditchwitch has a harp style locator also.
If that don't work go with Poots idea. . .look for smoke

Talked to a guy who was on vacation once. It was quite a few years ago. He was a troubleman from Florida. He said he actually could spot Alum. secondary faults in grassy areas because the grass would be very green over the spot, of course in the route of the cable. He also said he could sometimes find the fault by just feeling of the turf with his bare hand. He said it would be noticeably warmer above the fault.

Sounded authentic to me. Never heard of anyone else using this. I think he worked in an area of lots of golf courses and large lawns.

Been getting my fair share of shooting/locating secondary faults...so far so good using some old equipment to do it.

I guess we got some new equipment in, just hasn't been used yet.

Any of ya'll have any inside info/experiences ?

Here is some advise~
Take forever to find the faults, make a mess of backyards while digging them up, and suggest you will need more help to find them. Hopefully they will never give you the secondary fault jobs again!!
I can't stand hunting down faults in URD secondary! I have luck sometimes using just a locator. If you can isolate the cable, hook up your locater and follow it untill the signal drops. Works for me most times.

Aquatronics is probably the best secondary fault locator we have ever been around, uses old technology, but works well.
We will repair a faulted secondary once, the next time it is replaced.

WHAT? We've spliced srvc's as many as 5 or 6 times before someone finally agrees to replace! Usually cuz a fork from a fork lift got jabbed into the reel and no one noticed?

Wish we had an easier time convincing to replace'em?

Aquatronics is my favorite but it doesn't seem to work worth a dam on bare concentric srvc's? The Dynatell finds them ones better but barely? We were told the hard circuitry for our Aqutronics aren't beein made anymore so once they break that's it!:( Don't know if it's true about makin the circuitry but it would be a shame as the Dynatell isn't as easy to use?

We use the Pulsar 2000 I believe it is called. As long as you keep it charged up good and know how to use it correctly it works like a charm. Any locator can "lie" from time to time though. I usually hook the transmitter up to one end, then locate the fault, then move the transmitter to the other end of the run and verify my original fault location to help prevent digging test holes :D
