there is one word that scares the heck out of me, and that is BACKFEED.
for all that are going to storm work, use your personal protection, grounds and listen to the old timers that have worked major storms before. If 55 million people are without power they will do almost anything with a generator that you think is not possible....please take care and ya"ll come back home safe.

Nice post man! It's a good time to freshen up on you grounding procedures too!!!! Electricity takes ALL paths NOT just the past of least resistance!! That's good to remember when ya "think" you've grounded properly, "know" you've done it right!

Another interesting fact is, if you ground the primary during storm restoration and some customer puts backfeed from a generator into the secondary you will never know untill you lift the ground and suddenly the primary is at full phase voltage. So if you thought what you was working on was dead because you had it grounded, it will become as deadly as ever once you lift that last ground.
Be smart, be safe. know your job.

Whether you're procedures are to ground downed sh!t or not at all times before fixin it is it really that much of a pain in the @ss to wear your PPE? Alot of times I'll wear it no matter what for reasons just like that! Ya never know if somewhere someone or you missed an isolation point from backfeed? Grounds or no grounds rubber up!
Be safe!

Not too long along removed some grounds on a 240v street light circuit, boxed in...as soon as I lifted the ground she was spittin.
Good points. Watch for stuff being fed from a different a direction, bottom of the cutout maybe HOT. Move slow and think about what your doing.
