Is there anyone out there that has or would like to start your own line crew? I have been thinking about it but i have no idea how to get started. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

You would have to be a millionare to start and then you would still need millions more. Not to mention insurrance costs. Whew. That would be some outrages stuff. A nightmare.

What I have seen is most small contractors are being bought out by the big guys. And then some of the big wigs are bought out by bigger rigs. Almost like the banking industry and the phone companies. Everytime I turn around big companies are being purchased or merged with another.

There is no starting out small these days. Good luck!

Btw, I'm usually a postive person! LOL!

I'm wondering if it would matter what type of the part of world/state you live in. I guess it would have it's pros and cons with a small or large area? Personally? I would check with the small contractor and see how they are doing. Get as much information as you could. Even if it's from another state.

I guess I'm thinking more in the "business" part. Especially small business. I think the most research you can do, the better off you know about what you are getting into....business wise.

I looked to see where the OP is from and he hasn't gave us any indication about where he is. Not that it matters, but it could be a start. Maybe he was just curious as to how many that have. If they have, maybe they are too busy to say they have done it. Heh.

Do you have experience bidding jobs? If not.. that could be a deal breaker IMO.

If you win some bids....

Hire a good estimator -business manager.

Fleet can be leased...

Union Halls can provide labor...

Your gonna need a lot of cash and credit to front insurances and the other overhead costs for several years... and don't expect to pay your self much more than "wages" till you see a profit (at around 5 to 7 years if you make it that long).

Good thing is you can work all the half days you like....

12 is half or 24.:)
