2 pics of the way they used to climb poles (an still do) in Ireland. The secound pic is "pole top rescue" with "swedish climbing irons" they don't rescue you like that any more. But. Still use those climbing irons.... Called Swedish climbers or Scandies (Scandanavian)

I watched some linehands use those at a rodeo a few years back, looked strange as hell.
How big of a problem would those be to climb over arms/hardware???

Seriously?
You saw those used at a Rodeo?
Sure as shit it must have been a "demonstration".
In the "Real World" here in America at least,...that shit wouldn't fly, at ALL.
I think Tamer, we do Linework here in 'merica...ALOT different than Linework is done in most countrys.
I've also, as Steve said, seen
hooks like that, that were designed for Concrete poles.
Never seen any for steel Poles though. But I can imagine the concept would be about the same. Just with a different "catch" system on the back.
WHO would EVEN want to uses something like that??? And WHY??? Gimme HOOKS!!!
Yes Swamp, actually at the KC ILR about four years ago. NO, it wasn't a demonstration, they were competing with those things!
The ILR attracts alot of lineman from all over the world. The Jamaican apprentices won a couple of the individual events this year.

I will see if I can get a better one. They are very bad idea "I think" You put them on like skates, a strap over the toes and one around your ankle.... Saw a guy once fall back form only 2 meters. His feet were in the climbers. Both ankles snapped.left him hanging upside down. When we got him down his feet were pointing straight.( Like a ballerina) he was off work for two years an was never able to climb again... "Didn't walk to good either". But that's what they still use over there . If you climbed a Big Pole you had to change half way up to a smaller pair... Only used on wood poles..

Hope you guys can see these better...... They still use them. Trouble is coz they started with theses climbers theve designed the LV network to. Suit them.. LONG STORY... They do have advantages. If your reaching out toreach something on the line you can step out of the straps and use them as a platform you can turn 180 degrees and face forward ,saving twisting and straining your back.. And you can work all day on them and not tire as you've no pressure on your legs at all........
