Now THIS is a party-piece. The Dutch like to do what's called carbide shooting where they get milk churns or custom built cannons and use the reaction between water and calcium carbide to create acetylene for loud explosions. This one is particularly impressive.

I get the feeling that cannon was charged by gas from an oxyacetylene burning set.
