Ummmmmmmm I maybe did notice thats a whole new and different way of tying an alum conductor down from what we do here. Looks like you use at least 2 different sizes of tyewire while we only use 1 , The preformed tie and the bananna I spoze is universal in both places. You call it binding and we refer to it as clipping in or tying in. Or in the case of a heavy cable.. Mousing

Yeah. ! We are changeing the old hand binds for the new preform ones.

The baana is optional.

We are changing them because. Of the high winds on Jura, the conductorr was failing at the binds. The preforms are more flexanle.

I think copper would be the best thing. But wadda I know. :)

We've one little ladder but I don't use it. I prefer sitting on the arm. "Numb bum" but less to carry

Great pictures, glad to see you're getting your daily requirements of fruits and vegetables. What voltage are those lines Bren?

The line is.. 11kv. But They use 33kv insulators.. Because of the salt in the atmosphere. Only a small island out in the atlantic. We call it coastal spec.

If the line was 33kv you would need a melon as a fuse "obviously". :)

The isle of Jura is only about 30 miles long and around 4 or 5 miles across.
BUT its got a few whiskey distileries. And around 6000 deer.( They are all over the place). Every time I pass a big stag I havnt my phone on me to take a pic. But I will try again tomorow.

Poots name on a bananna........far far away.on a pole in scotland,,,,,,,,what an honor..............now bren, wheres the rest of our names?

So is that a one bananavolt line then? The 33kV insulators for 11kV is a good plan.

I think the guy with the ladder has the right idea. That said, the ladder could get a bit fatiguing on the back and feet after a while. Those crossarms look not so much like bum numbers (in the UK "bum" means "butt") as pile makers. If you were doing loads you could make a little saddle that sat across the crossarm to make life a bit more comfortable.

Y'know Bren, I get the feeling that the Yanks would quite like their names to be written on, or scored into the side of a pole on a remote Scottish Island...

An honour indeed. I thought hed apreciate it because he was sooooo upset he couldn't figure out my banana hanger. "HE BECAME OBSESSED". So in his honour I brought a banana out on the ferry to Jura this morning write his name on it. Carried it through a bog up a mountain then up a pole. But it was worth it...... :)

At least we know that your not part monkey......a monkey would climb to get his food................but you........climb to return the food.............I can see the newspaper now............SHANNON ,IRELAND.........MAN TAKES BANANNA ACROSS FERRY
CARRIES IT THROUGH BOG
TAKES IT UP A POLE & LEAVES IT
TAKES PHOTOS

Maybe a bit mental. But sure I would be bored up a pole if I had only menial tasks like today.

BUT ! Maybe clives given me an idea. Forget fruit. "Highest bidder gets a brass plaque up a pole on a remote Scotish island. I caan take a photo , give ya a grid reference.. Etc.

People "buy stars an plots on the moon". One born every minute. :)

So shalll we start the bidding at 50 bucks ?????????

And as for that little ladder. "I can just about get meself up the hill (carrying a fruit). Without dragging that thing around. NO I will balance my "butt " on the 2 inch steel . Thanks all the same. :)

I was going to suggest little metal labels but thought nah! Dymo do metal tape for their old style punch labellers, but the next person who gashes their hand on one as they climb the pole might be a bit miffed.

Actually, come to think of it. You could use the standard brass discs and a set of letter punches to bludgeon names into them.

I bet he did eat that banana right after taking the photo. All that's left is a rotting banana skin in the undergrowth with "POOT" inexplicably written on it in biro.

I was thinking of a bicycle saddle or foam pad with a bit of U channel under it Bren. Small and light, but designed for sitting on.

And there's me going to all tthat trouble. Importing foregin fruit to a remote island. ( It could upset the whole eco system). The whole of that little island could be full of banana palms in 30 years. ;)

I think the least Bren could do is plant a coconut so the locals can make pina coladas with their bananas.

Oh ****E! That's pineapple isn't it. Oh well, I'll just make a **** of myself in public by implying banana and coconut based cocktails will I? :o
