That's the nice thing about the internet though seeing how others do things.

Love all the pictures. Scotland has got to be one of the most beautiful places around. Where I'm from it's all flat corn/soybean fields with the occasional pasture small wooded area thrown in the mix. One of the good things about traveling for work... get to see different landscapes.

Scotland is quite attractive, but remember the old saying "The grass is greener on the other side of the hill." Never underestimate your local scenery. Others might find it just as appealing.

You're right. Indiana does have some nice spots, especially southern Indiana.
Where I currently live isn't too bad... quiet, in the country, on the river. View from my front porch last summer.

Have never seen that type of guy (stay) insulator assemblies in the US. Is there a piece of guy wire held with preform wraplocks or just a special preformed assembly that connects the two insulators? Does the color of the tape have any meaning?
I am asking the same question, do those double johnny balls come assembled from the manufacturer that way or do you assemble them that way in the field? We would only use 1 johnny ball, we had large 1s for our 44kv & smaller 1s for our distribution voltages, but now we use a 12" insulated link instead.

They don't come pre assembled. They come as a kit.two preforrms and a piece of wire. The tape only pinches the wire together to keep the insulators in place. If ya don't tape them the insulators bang together and break. No significance with the tape colour ( except we usually race and ya can tell how many each linemans made. :). I will get a pic of them "not made up" when we get some more supplies.
Why 2 johnny balls? I also noticed you wrap the guy around the pole. We use a guy fitting along with this link http://www.macleanpower.com/products/item.asp?ITEM_ID=2296 We have about 6' of steel then attach the link with preforms then the down guy.

We use to insulators coz of the votage. This line is 33 kv. We connect the stay to the pole with a " pole top wrap". It means ya don't have to drill the pole an there fore weaken it. The pole top wrap comes with a centre wire ( king wire) which we un wrap and it conects to the steel work . You might be able to see it in this picture. We coil the king wire into a "spring" and conect it to the steel work wiith the X arm bolt. If ya look in in the pic ya should see it on the right. :)
I have only seen a wrap similar to that on 115 kv & higher up here with out johnny ball, even on our 44kv we will drill a hole & use a guy fitting with a 3/4 bolt & 4" curved washer. 1 more hole really is not going to significantly weaken the pole. We only need 1 large johnny ball or the 12" insulated link on our 44kv.

You're black tape guy, right Bren? By the looks of the picture, yellow tape guy was screwing off, or yellow tape guy is the App. and doesn't yet have the skills to keep up.:)

One more hole at the top of the pole would make a difference. The poles come to site pre driilled with 3 holes at the top. One forr the x arm and at 90 degrees to that , above and below x arm bolt are 2 splitter bolts. ( They stop the weight of the the x arm and wire) from spliting the pole in two. " Basically a clamp.
I was yellow tape guy. There's more yellow taped ones in a pile out of shot. Anyway we had 10 each. 6 men and 60 stays ( even I could work that out). :)

Johnny Balls? we call them stay eggs or pineapples don't know the origin of them names though. We used to have head wrap stays but have never had to do one in my time.
Bren we usually knink the preforms back on em' selves to pinch the "EGG" to stop them rolling out of the grooves saves on tape!
