When I was a helper we had one headlineman that would sharpen the apprentices hooks.......he even sharpened some jy hooks...............saw alot of klien hooks being sharpened.............all the years Ive worked I have only seen it done a handful of times...............other than sharpening them myself..................how many of you prefer the ducktail............I was brought up with that type of sharpening...............but I dont include it when i do my hooks.............anyone out there that does?

Theres most likely sombody that can explain it better than me...........but Ill try, its the pointed end of the gaff, which some people call spikes.........some guys like a different angle at the tip,and they say it either penetrates the pole better or gets a better grip on the pole.............I happen to like my gaffs straight.............but sharp..........really sharp.

I never thought of that North Flordia........maybe I should have kept my kliens......I would guess kliens come out of the pole easier............is that the reason?.............personally back in 2006 when I was 46 years old climbing 55 foot cca poles I felt better with the buckinhams........being older you think of heights differently than you did at 26 or younger.........but it is tough being older and climbing a 55...........the way that contractor mind-set was............you should be able to climb like you were 24 yrs of age.........dont get me wrong,Im still able to climb, and enjoy it.................but I was lucky as a youngster...........there were no cca's:D
