...............Hate to spend Mr.LostArts money..........but here it goes..........one thing I really enjoy when in the mood is going to those small town antique stores............you can find some cool stuff........and spend some dough if you know what I mean............old tools, old and weird insulators if thats what you collect, old WW2 medals...........and everything you can imagine.........guns,rifles................even a old type close hanger,,,,,,,,lol.............theres a place 45 miles west of Dallas that is about 300 acres of this or that.............these hillbillies even sell used toliets.copper clothes hangers.............you name it.......if your looking for it its most likely there...........you just have to find it.......................now the question...........have any of you ever found something that was like one of a kind,or special?

We Geiger counter geeks do a thing called urban prospecting and you can find some very cool radioactive items just laying around.
Well anyway this perpendicular item was a Radium tipped nasalparangeal probe with a gram of pure radium on the tip and it was hotter than hell. I carried it to the pickup at arms length and made it ride in the back of the box on the way home.
I stuck in the lead pig in the garage and called the guys at Oak Ridge to come pick it up because at one Curie, 37 billion disintegration,s a second it was way to hot for my collection.:nightmare:

Half of what you explained..........totally has me lost........but you said ..........some cool radioactive items in the begining and at the end you say it was way too hot for your collection........ok that was sorta a joke on my part......but......lets talk science for a bit.......first of all explain the (Curie)37 billion disintegrations a second.........and if you can........and I believe that you can.........explain to us the facts about the nuclear plant accident in Japan last year.........even though they put water on the reactor,or core........was that what you would call a losing battle...........since it may take years or centeries to cool down............guess im asking you how long does that process take..........Im just a half of a jack of all trades............hpoe you dont mind explaining.

Nothing rare. Just normal old junk. I live two miles from a town that deals in many stores of Antiques. People come here to shop for just that kind of stuff. I don't go every week or even every few months. Maybe once or twice a year. When you see one piece of junk, you have seen it all.:D

a Curie U.S. or Becquerel the rest of the world tells how radioactive a substance is, I wrote this Wikki to help out.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radiation_units
1 curie is dangerous, Most of my stuff is micro curies.
The Japanese disaster, You got me started! The greedy dumbasses built a reactor on a frigging volcanic island. Then after the Tsunami hit and killed the cooling pumps with sea water they could have flooded the reactors with sea water to keep them cool but the operator was worried about damaging his valuable equipment??????
So the reactors boiled off the water they had exposing the fuel rods to air and with the high temperature the zirconium cladding on the fuel rods turned into hydrogen generators.
one tiny little spark and KABOOM they did it with 4 of 6 reactors.

I understand. Nothing wrong with reading about electrons. But, picture average smalltown me, searching for images of comedians/jokers for avatars and then in the next few minutes I'm doing a search for curies and Radium tipped nasalparangeal probe. That's from extreme to another....or ...one galaxy to another. :D
