I know most places either have their own tree crew or hire a tree service to do the trimming, just wondering how many of you guys have to do your own tree trimming. We are a smaller company so most of the winter is spent trimming trees, anyone else?

I did tree work and line clearing before I did line work. The municipality we did our own line clearing.
I own 6 chainsaws my big Stil has a 36 inch bar. I can competitively bid and complete any tree you have and put some guys to work if I am between jobs.

We are a smaller company so most of the winter is spent trimming trees, anyone else? If a utility has tree trimmers on the property, I use them every chance I get. Keeps them working. If we do all of our own......next thing you know there won't be any tree trimmers except in storm. On Detroit Edison ROW, we were always told you could cut limbs up to the size of a quarter. Any bigger -- call the apes. If we don't cut trees.......maybe they won't build powerlines. There is plenty of work for all of us.

Years ago we did our own. I served 3 years hard time on the R/W crew before becoming an apprentice. You can really tell the guys that did tree work by the way they work a saw during a storm recovery.
