I think high premiums is the least of the worries with many of these in the air.

Personally, we'd rather have a contraption like the one that pushes George Jetson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2h5mpmSoc4) out of bed and into the shower every morning, but flying cars are pretty cool, too. At least two manufacturers have announced that their auto-airplane amalgams have taken flight, if only in test runs. Terrafugia says (http://www.terrafugia.com/newsreleases.html#PPFlight1) its Transition Street-Legal Airplane prototype made its maiden flight on March 23, while PAL-V's Personal Air and Land Vehicle takes to the skies in the "crazily awesome" video shown here.
Commercial deliveries of these space-age vehicles are expected to commence within the next two years or so for those brave enough to turn freeways into runways. Can't wait to see those insurance premiums.
