We bought a Super Beast, can anyone tell me the pros and cons of using one. Thank you, Bob.

As far as I know there is no downside. They allow you to add load to either leg of the service and monitor the voltage for a rise or drop. Its a handy tool for determining if a high resistance connection is present. I usta place an ampmeter on the ground rod at the house and if it showed any current at all then there was a problem somewhere on the neutral.

I have heard of a super beast, thats about it,can anyone fill me in ,our metering dept used to sometimes put a chart on the customers equipment to locate a problem. And Poot if it was an old house where the neutral was also grounded to the water pipes would you still be getting current on the ground rod?

Ummmmm if they were grounded to the water pipes all ya hafta do is move yer meter up tween the box and where it heads off to the pipes and it will give you a reading if sumpins rong.

We started with a basic Beat of Burden, then went to Super Beast and now the Mega Beast. They are great for finding open neutrals. I think the best thing about them is how easy they are to use. The company that makes the beast also makes a tester for UG services, we're hoping to demo one soon.

I take it that the progressively grander sounding models of the beast have higher load ratings? I guess that these are fundamentally big heating elements and fans for cooling.
