First of all Im going to take a guess concerning how many belts a lineman uses in a career,Or how many he wears out...........I know it depends on the amount its being used/and in what weather conditions.........but I say most guys will say about 2 or 3 belts...Ive had two
,with countless diddy bags,a few small replacements.....they are pretty expensive these days, and I hope nobody has lost one or had one stolen.

2 in 40 years......
But,I bet many dont use the wooden handled ball peen hammers anymore, that was standard......I converted to a 22 oz. carpenter framers hammer....thought I would hear some flack, but never did,the claws have came in handy......but driving a hardhead in can take more swings.

I've NEVER owned a belt ...... The companys I've wooorked for have supplied me with belts/ harness. And I left them behined when I left them....
But because I've worked for a few companys over the years... I would say I've had at least 15 or 20......

Ummmmmmmmm In 39 yrs I have had two n I would still be usin the first one if some lowlife tree trimmer didnt swipe it outta my truck when I went in the backyard to put a service he wanted down back up. Lets face it that aint sumpin a feller misplaces. Ummmmmmm The safety however has been replaced several times........... usta use them leather uns but the hardware cloth ate em alive. So I went with an 8 ft nylon .they last forever on distribution. Its so old that it dont have the locking snaps and it still looks almost new. Ummmmmmmm enybody remember the old belts with a hammer loop dead in the middle of your back?

Yea Poot I remember them, still have that type, but usually I carry mine towards the side,I havent seen the newer belts in awhile...guess Ill take a look when I have the time.....seen alot of belts and some hooks in pawn shops, wonder why some are there......as for the guy that took your belt.....he doesnt know what it means to a lineman, his life could be in jeopardy....thats pretty low life And Bren having between 15 and 20 must be some type of record or he must haved climbed a million and a half poles............the question remains how many trips to a bannana tree he has had to make.

I've. Had so many coz we don't own ours. "They are supplied". Its the law over here. Any company You work for has to supply ALL YOUR SAFTEY equipment. I've just happend to have worked for many companys...... Aint worn any belts out yet. :).
And its a banana palm...... :)

Believe it or not I still have my first line belt, and it is still in pretty good shape, granted we do not climb that much. We went to mostly bucket trucks quite a few years ago when the department of labor made a ruling that if you can get a truck to the job you have to use the truck. We were able to get a variance for training new apprentices. Even a lot of the off road work I have been involved in we had tracked equipment for. It's a shame too, I learned to climb when we were still allowed to free climb. But then in the early '90's fall arrest became mandatory and since fellas hated that so much using a bucket became the norm. But it seems my belt has shrunk a little bit.

That might be a can of worms that you just opened Rob (laughing) I had a foreman show up on a small job some time ago....and when I went for the small squirt boom.....he stopped me and said ...no..no..no....your going to climb that pole..........I thought is was stupid not using a bucket when one was available.....but now days I can see why he wanted it that way............back to the belts..I remember being issued 3 cresent wrenches..8 inch..10 inch and 12 inch...in apprentice and climbing schools we had to have all three on our belts while climbing......years later I would just bring one with me,and a pair of channel locks.

I couldn't imagine using as many belts as what Bren has, I have always been particular about my hooks and belt, once I got em broke in to where they were comfortable I did'nt want to swap them out. They did talk me into checking out 1 of those new Buckingham back-saver belts, saying that they were so much more comfortable and light, but I couldn't turn in it like I could my old leather Bashlin professional, so after 1 pole I got my old belt back out, they can have that other 1 back.:D

ummmmmmmm we were given a tool allowance every year and they didnt furnish nuttin. Every wrench belt ,set of hooks, safety, we hadda pay for. BUT we hadda choice in what we used and how often we changed em out. When it was all over n dun with I spect I made muney on the tool allowance deal. I kept track of my stuff, took semi decent care of it and carried no more than I had to.Back in the day HLP furnished their people with some speed wrenches that were not available anywhere else. I managed to get a set of them n used em plum up to the time someone borrowed my truck n drove across a open field with em in a tool tray n bounced all my tools all out. He replaced all of em but them kause they wasnt available enywheres. Tween 2 of em they wud fit any Transformer, cutout, or dead end shoe, ltng arrestor, etc.

I've actually only "Owned" 1 Belt, and yes poot, it had the "Hammer Loop" in the back. And, I retired, wearin that belt.
It was a Bashlin Floridian. Circula..1969. 98%, LEATHER.
Don't bother lookin for it. It's still available...but it ain't the belt I bought in 1969.
I've "used" other belts on different "jobs", for different periods of time. "Full Floaters", "Partial Floaters"...They all..."Work". But...there's only ONE ya really Love.
I wore mine with a "Gut Strap". My belt, was like a "seat".
Only like ONE Saftey Strap though. "latigo leather". Did the "Klein Cord"...it was ok...just too stiff for me personally. My Latigo, had a Nylon center. Latigo leather on both sides.
I don't even know if you can find one of those anymore. Everythings gone to "Plastic or Fiber" sh$t.
