Which do you have? At the moment I don't have any of them. However, I'm trying to decide which is the best for me and the bang for my money.

Any guros of the Eworld know? If so, post. There are probably more than just me that want to know! :D

Mom has a Kindle. She loves it. She says there are some free books to download. And we give her gift cards to get more. :D But, she reads more than I do.

I'm not too advanced on the tech age much. Other than I know the costs. Mostly teacher classroom products they are using now. Everywhere I look someone has an ipad. It's just about advanced the texting trend. :D

I still can't get over going to a meeting and someone either has an ipad they are pecking on or their phones. In a meeting! I don't even take my phone into a business meeting. I leave it in my car. Just seems rude to me. No one is looking or seems to be paying attention to the speaker. Crazy stuff.

I think it really depends on what you want to do with it. If its only for reading, I have heard very good things about the regular kindle. You can also "share" books by checking them out with other readers at amazon. The battery life of these are very good. They last for weeks because there isn't alot of extra stuff and color and etc.

Thank you Johnny. So the regular Kindle is better than Kindle Fire?

It really depends on if you only want to use it to read books. If that is the only thing, the regular kindle was built specifically for that, and its better and cheaper. But if you want to read books, and get on the internet, stream video, etc. The kindle fire will do that as well. But then the battery life is worst and its not as nice to read.

Don't you mean an iPad 3? Or has someone bought you an older model?

Despite not being a big Apple fan, I do have an iPad 2. It's very slick because it is such a totally standardised piece of hardware.

If LA is likely to be reading her book outdoors or in a bright area, then maybe the Kindle is the best option, since it is very visible in sunlight.

If you search about on the 'net, there are plenty of free book files available for reading.

If you want something to just read books, thats it. KINDLE. The screen is made to be like reading a paper page. Very cool. Easy to read in bright light and all. If you want something that does a lot of things, internet, email, games, etc. Go with the iPad. The kindle fire is, IMO, trying to be like an ipad to begin with. So it just depends on what ya see yourself doing with it.

That's what they keep telling me if I just want to use it for reading to just stick with regular Kindle. And thanks about telling me which one to use outdoors! Yep, I do read outside sometimes.

Thanks guys!

The Christmas before last I bought my wife a plain Kindle, she read it every night. Then last year she wanted a Kindle Fire, I got her that and said I'll take her Kindle for my Christmas present. I read it every night before bed and the charge lasts about two weeks, but you can plug it in and read as you charge and I set it on the night stand and it's all set for another two weeks the next day. I like the fact I can enlarge the font so I don't have to squint at the print. We bought a jacket for it that has a built in light if it get's too dark but I never use the light.

I like it better than books because if you want to read a couple books you don't have to tote them around. This is great for my wife because when she goes on vacation she can get more shoes or undies or whatever the heck she puts in her luggage that makes it so heavy. . .Now we know it aint the books she's packin'

Now I love my wife but she is not technically inclined and she is not using her Kindle Fire up to it's full technical ability. I don't want to know how it works and I'm not giving up the kindle she gave me, that I bought her. . . . is that a regifted gift?

The neat thing about the Kindle is that it uses electronic ink, which gives it the bright outdoor readability and low power consumption. It works by having tiny particles of black ink suspended in a white liquid that has electrodes on either side that transfer the black pigment back and forth between the front and back of the display. When the pigment is at the front it can be seen as black text, but when it's at the back it's invisible. The power to transfer the pigment is only needed briefly on each page turn. It only allows black, white and some shades of grey, but is totally visible in full sunlight unlike a traditional backlit LCD display.

I keep hearing the Kindle is better than the Kindle Fire. I thought the upgrade would be better. So, T....you might have got the better end of that stick. :D

I have an original version of the NOOK. Black and white only. Works well but the battery life is not very good. Have the version with the cell phone service so I can download books without having to find a wifi hot spot.

I use it a fair amount, mostly when I'm on the road. Have a subscription to the local paper that I can read on the NOOK which is pretty nice. On Fridays Barnes and Nobel has a book selection that you can download for free. Mostly to introduce new or relatively authors and I've read a number of those. Works well and is easy to read in bright light or sun light , e-ink, but like I said in earlier post the battery life is lousy. Hopefully improved on newer versions.

I ended up with the regular Kindle guys. I like it. I've not had a chance to read on it much and I'm still learning it. I like the idea that I don't have all these books lying around and I can pick up the kindle, find a book, read it, and delete it.

The regular Kindle will hold almost 3000 standard books, so unless the book is bad I don't delete them myself.

I had the nook... It locked up in me and when I sent it in under warranty they kept it and did not send me back money or a new one. Barnes and ignoble are no longer on my list of places to buy. I bought the iPad and never looked back!

Thrasher, how many books you have saved? :D I've not read a good one yet to save. However, I've only read two books on it. :D

Hey RWD! That's what I hear about the Ipad. Maybe for Christmas.

I use the Kindle and have not deleted any books I've read, I'm not sure I'll get to all 3000 before either the Kindle or I give up. . . . . . If I do get to 3000 I'll celebrate and buy whatever the new gadget is when I get there!

I have about 55 books on it now and have only deleted one that was so bad I didn't even finish it. I have a library at home that between hardbacks and (mostly) paperbacks has got over a thousand books. Some of the paperbacks I bought so long ago that they were only 35 cents new. I read a lot of Scfi, History, and historical fiction.
