We have a weird system with our company.... Our holidays run from our birthday month to our birthday montth each year... My B day is in june so I had 8 days to use up by the end of may.
If we don't use them we lose them :(
Heading back to Scotland on the ferry this morning. In work tomorow and wensday. Then home ( flying). On Thursday.
Just loading me "jag onto ferry now...... :)

Ummmmmmmmmmm Over here yes we do hafta get em in or lose em. But its frum the new year till the next new year. ummmmm and the only Floating holiday is our birthday. Vacation however works a lil different in that some places will allow you to carry so many days over from one year to the next. It should also be noted that not everyone gets paid holidays or vacation benefits. Those in the construction end ( contractor) usually dont while those who work directly for a utility do.

No reppy........ NOT in my gang. We are away from home most of the year so we use all our holidays..... And we even have the oppertunity to BUY extra days . Either 5 or 10 extra days per year....... (Works out at around £100 per day) if ya want to buyy them.
I don't buy extra but two of the other Irish lads do.

Ummmmmmmm just how does that work anyway? If you buy and pay for say 5 days extra do you then get paid when you use em? Or do you just spend already taxed income to purchase unpaid time off? Its a foreign concept to me.

The way it works pooot. Is......... We get paid for our days holidays so if we "BUY" a day it costs £100 and that's stopped outta your wages... So typically if ya buy 10 days they stop. 83.33 per month.... And pay you for your day off... (But you've put that money away for it )
In real life itt costs you more..... Because every day your off you don't get your "live out allowance either....
We only have the oppertunity to do this because the office staff do it a lot and they gotta offer us the same......... (But they don't really like us doing it ).

ummmmmm so basically you are paying your own wages when yer off? I bleve some of the contractors have a similar deal thru the union and contribute an amout each month that allows them to take some time off and get a paycheck on payday.
Ummmmmmm I spoze my next question is do they still pay the airfare and such ? Or duz that come outta yer pocket also? And is there a problem with taking that time off with little or no notice? Round here everybody wanzta take off at the same time n so Its all schedued so there will still be enough staff left to handle the daily stuff and mergencies.

That's a sore point with us poot. At the moment we leave here on a thursday and fly back Sunday, or flights are cheap. Around 50 pounds return and 30 for parking at the airport. We get paid for the fri we are home but don't get anything for our flights or parking. We also get paid Sun nights digs money. Which is a deal we are happy with. BUT the new contracts they want us to work up to Fri and come back Sunday ....... And still not pay our fligjts etc. That's why we have a lot of guys leaving. Our squad are all Irish except for our Chargehand ( he's Scotish). And he has handed in his notice " he leaves in 2 weeks" ......
I was off all last week and had two phone calls from companys looking to hire me. There is a lot of work in the uk for linemen at the moment. :)
SO they picked a bad time to try and "bully us".
Us Irish guys are waiting to see the new contracts ( and are applying for other jobs at the same time). Aint keeping all our eggs in the one basket.

Ummmmmmmmmm sounds like the smart thang to do. May very well cost ya down the road a few years but who wanzta werk fer azzholes enyways. Good linemen can usually go to werk any time they want.
We would be paid out if we carry over more than 5 days.
