Recently I noticed a highline,it was either 69kv or 138.....framed delta, both on wooden poles and steel poles....up on top there was a static....below the phases was what appeared to be some 336...looked to be some type of ground....not all poles had a bond or ground connection going to the 336.....but on a few the336 was strapped around the steel pole ,serving as a connection......whay would they have this? this was in galveston,so was it like a back up,due to the salty conditions?.....saying that how many of you have to wash insulators due to salt collecting on them?

Ummmmmmmmm I spect the 336 was actually some shielded fiber optic cable. It looks exactly like a phase conductor......... but if you look a lil closer it will have a special deadend shoe that wont break to fiber optics inside. Ummmmmm yes I have washed plenty of 69 kv on the Bolivar peninsula..

Could have been,Ive seen plenty of fiber optic, they had a piece of equipment near the mounted area where we would use a fork,i dont know what its called but looked like lots of strands spreaded out, almost like a cage....ive seen them on highline.....also while there I noticed a swarm of radio controlled pole top switches.....feeding from transformers which I believe were on the sub /feed side of the line.....makes sense just like reclosures.

if your talking bout it being clipped in with dog bones then its most likely fiber......just last week we started a job transfering some of it and it had 2 sets of armor rod...one set put on over the wire, then a dogbone and bigger armour rod over that to keep the fiber from breaking where its in the shoe and it was about the size of 336

I guess it was fiber optic....fooled me big time....i didnt mention that it had a 12 kv circuit under the so-called fiber optic........ofcourse the highline voltage was on top.
