Talked to two guys I went to NLC with tonight that are working up in bakersfield California for a rat contractor and they sent me some pics of the two of em rubbing gloving out of a bucket! They have less than one year combined experience in linework and no groundman experience, also it was two apprentices in a bucket not a JL and an apprentice but two guys that have LESS THAN ONE YEAR COMBINED between em working primary by themselves. How does this sh!t happen?

If that is true....then I think if there was an accident waiting to happen, this would be it....I hate to hear that, and I hate to be saying that.

I think so too Bren, what happens if down the line one or both get killed.who does the answering to that question.Who takes responsibility,or do they make up something? That just doesnt make sense......I do have a question that will likely go un-answered....what stupid company is letting that happen?.....what Gen.foreman lets that happen? What bunch of idiots let that happen?

Ummmmmmmmmm I kinda think this happens kinda reglar like where there aint no structured or defined training programs. Its kinda a sink or swim mentality.Often there aint but one guy makin the decision that a greenhorn is ready to start workin hot primary, and he May be" That Guy", Yanno the one we spoke about earlier? If you couple that with a desire to shine by the newbie it should be criminal. But evidently it aint.

Its a company called Dowden not sure where there from, you can get alot of guys new to this trade to do just about anything cus they dont wanna be seen as a ***** or that they cant do something and thats how your gonna get yourself hurt or killed. What kind of piece of sh!t would ask someone so new to this trade to get in a bucket and work primary. And with so many safety rules and companys being so worried about insurance rates how does someone decide this is ok.

So, by that statement Labor, any Lineman that works for a Non union Utility or Co-op as a, qualified Journeyman Lineman, by that Utility or Co-op is a "Rat" to you....? Really?

Sad. So, the only "Journeyman Lineman" that can ever BE Jouneyman Lineman....MUST be union.

But NOT real life thinkin.

I'm afraid swampy ya just highlighted the problem over there.

We werre talking about what a lot of us considered a very dangerous and un exceptable practice. And you are squabaling about " journey men , union verses non union.

F.F.S. Stand back and see the big picture. Two young linesmens lives are being put at risk.

1. I respect ALL linemen. (And other life forms)
2. Even if they weren't linesmen and a company was putting any young life at risk I would be annoyed
3 . Just remember that old saying... "DIVIDE AND CONQUER". Coz while you guys are "squabbling and *****ing AND NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. We arre all guilty by assosiation ,

SHAME. :-(

Rather than ***** and moan about it. I have looked the company up . And I believe they are in "Taft"...... I was gonna email them but they have no email listed. I even joined a "link site " to try and contact one of its directors...
I've got their phone num and when I work out the time difference I will ring them and Querry if its true what was posted on plm... And take it from there.

I reckon they got the "right of reply". And no point going of half cocked. Better to get all the facts before "throwing stones"

No sir, this is a recipe to get someone killed. If I were to drive by this jobsite and see something like this I would shut it down even if is was not my company. We all do hazard recognition training we all should be using it!

I'm sick and tired of kids working things way out side of there training--tired of reading accident reports and ****ed sure tired of reading death certificates on this site and many others. We as lineman need to be more proactive about our trade. Mr Bren G. is spot on attack on multiple fronts: including their front door if you have access. Otherwise, when those kids get killed; it's our fault.

work safely,

Medieval times, french word "journee" which means one day, referring to the right to charge one days labor. Journeyman served under masters until they submitted a master work. Thanks wikipedia!

You are not a Lineman with 1 year in the trade. I don't care who you are. And you ask why these young men are doing rubber gloveing at less then one year in the trade. "IT's BECAUSE IT's A RAT OUT FIT."
