Just saw Jim Cantore on the Weather Channel talking to our local celebs in our hometown of Live Oak, FL. :D Kinda neat really. I've seen Jim go all over this state, but never so close as our hometown. Local lawyer showed an old pic of when Hurricane Dora came through Live Oak in '64. I've only seen pictures of the town flooded from then. Now, I see it on TV. Unbelieveable. The video is pretty new. Only taken an hour ago. I'll show it when I can find it yet.
Btw, I'm home today couldn't make my meeting in Live Oak since it was flooded and they called those of us that lived down dirt roads or far away to stay in.
Watch it if you can. I'm sure they will show it most of the evening.

:D I've not seen any snakes, but I am alert. The Boss killed a 3 and 1/2 ft diamondback a couple of weeks ago in the back where our rockbed is. He wasn't going to tell me he said, but he decided I might need to be on the look out.
Reppy, I don't even hear frogs here. My mother said she hears them at the riverhouse. My brother hears them at the farm. He says he has a huge lake in his frontyard. I saw Jim Cantore still in Live Oak this morning saying that the water isn't going down very fast. He also mentioned that all the rivers will flood here.
My mother will be leaving her place on the Suwannee today to go to my brother's house. She told me yesterday that at 23 ft she can't get out the road. And at 31 ft it will flood the house. We saw that in '97. Both my kids called me yesterday, "Tell Mema to leave Mama." LOL! I told them you don't tell Mema anything. :D So, they called her and she said she will leave today. Thank goodness because the Boss was driving me nuts about her needing to get out yesterday.
We have had over 13" of rain here. We are in a sandpit, so there are no puddles of water to even get you a glass full reppy. However, I can have Live Oak send you some tank fulls!
Btw, here is the reading of the Suwannee River for Branford (where I work and where my mom lives):

Btw, that middle picture is the same street (Hwy 90--runs east/west) they showed the residents moving sandbags yesterday in the top vid. The other street in the above black and white is one street over by the courthouse.
In most of the vids of Jim Cantore in Live Oak is on hwy 129 near the old City of Live Oak building. Hwy 129 runs north and south. Up to I-10 and down to Branford, FL.

cool pic's LA,
lots of rain down here too and we need it. not to much flooding but most went down pretty quick.
in a flooded area, most down here know to watch for gators, snakes, coons and a few other animals but most don't realize about fire ants.
they will float to the top and hold on to each other by the thousands. we call it fire island. when they find high ground they own it. cars, poles, homes or someone's legs.
I look foward to seeing a reporter on TV or u-tube standing in the water and start doing the fire dance. it's something most of our florida folks have had the pleasure doing at some point.
and they do leave a mark !!!

Fire ants! Yes sir. I do know about them dar boogers! Awful pests they are.
Glad you all got the rain and we are very thankful for it too. I feel bad for our relatives and friends over in Live Oak, because that can not be much fun. I've been off from work for two days and I'm ready to head back. You laugh, but I have payroll to get to our county office (in Live Oak) that was due yesterday morning!

Hehehehe.........You have made me laugh twice in less than five minutes. I think we will keep you muddy or not. :D
Speaking of rain, here are some pics from friends of ours that live in Live Oak. Dry Prairie is an old young folks stompin' ground. I didn't go there much as a teenager, but alot of my friends did. I think the last time I went there was in the Boss's new jeep before we married. It was a sand pit where a bunch of young boys drove 4x4's would run around acting like cowboys. :D
And the other pic of the car in the water is on 49 and Moore Road not far from our friend's house. They have to be creative to make it into Live Oak to work from their house, but they have it mapped out since going around today to find a way. Our friends are fortunate, they live on a hill and own a 4x4.

My sister-in-law still can't get out. She has permission to ride thru a couple of her neighbors properties to get to the dirt road over. Her mother-in-law has moved in with her until she can get the water damage cleared at her house. But, nothing can be done until the water is out and they can get to it. So, my sister-in-law has her MIL, her SIL (who is now there to help her mother---) and her mother all living in her house. Yep, she is just about nutty. :D
I'm to pick up her mother this Thursday to stay with us a few days. Even my MIL wants a break. :D
Live Oak is still underwater in some areas and it's been almost 2 weeks now. My mother is fine. The Suwannee has crested and is now going down fast. She never had to leave. The bridge near the house which is the Santa Fe crested last week. The bridge never closed. A few more inches and they would have closed it.
We have had river water in our wells for a week now. However, it is getting a little bit clearer in the last couple of days.

Yeah, they are protected in our rivers here. I've not swam with them(--some folks have), but we have watched them from the boat many times. Most boaters slow down when they are in the rivers---usually right slab dab in the middle of it. I use to worry they would turn the boat over.
