How many times have you changed out connections below a bank and looked down the line and saw cracks both ways on your 4/0 twist,Im talking many carcks in the insulation, some small and others large, did you take the transformer off the line to work it hot,or like me did you work it gentaly......and for you guys up in the northern states do you see this often. It may just be a combination of the heat and age, weather conditions

Never heard it called that before.About the only thing of seen is the squirrels chewing on the conductor insulation. No break down of the triplex up north that I've seen.Sounds like some kind of a lite break down of the insulation.

is what we call it here. We use it on old open wire and for jumpers on banks. Yes the sun and weather breaks it down here too. Also hate working on the old rubber coated triplex. That stuff is easier to retire and replace. Now we are using #2 and 1/0 triplex with no steel core.

Its really bad when you see not only the cracks in the insulation, but the oxidation going all down the wire, some places look like just powder, this is neoprene insulated wire.
