We don't use them anymore because running up and down Virginias wonderful rural roads they literally shake apart.

I still carry one although tend not to use it very often.

The local DNO (electricity company) guys around here are still issued with them and they are the "definitive instrument" when checking volts are in spec.

A lot of the old volt meters can no longer be used by us because all of our secondary volt meters have to have a minimum CATIII rating, but they supplie us with CATIV meters. We also cannot use the clip on amp feature of these meters on primary, we have to use meters designed for primary.

We used the old black westinhouse amp meters, the non voltmeter types....even used the amp stick alot while I was brought up,I could be wrong but some guys here might have never used an amp stick.

The apparatus crew has some of the new hastings stick meters but the guys still carry the old clamp-on ammeter in case the battery dies in the hastings meter or if they need to check more than one place simultaneous. The old ammeters were built heavy enough to take a beating unlike the volt meters.

We used the old amp meters that you installed in the amp stick when I first started, but not anymore as the meters are not meant to be used on primary. We only use amp meters that are designed for primary, this is what we use. http://www.technical-sys.com/Sensorlink%20Meters.htm

I still have an old Amprobe analog meter, I keep handy. Its not legal to use because the leads aren't fused but since I do not trust a battery operated meter, its handy to double check an odd reading. One time I almost condemned a transformer because of odd readings using a battery powered meter in the winter time, it seems when the batteries are getting low you will get screwy readings. And since it is also a clip on ammeter, I can check load readings if I don't like what I see .

Ummmmmmmmm the old analog meters were also good for checking a capicator. Using the ohms function, when you placed the leads on each terminal it would go full scale and drop back to zero. then reversing those leads it would once again go full scale and drop back every time .If it didnt there was an open internaly. Also a check from each terminal to the case showed a shorted cowpasture.

that cowpasture comment is still funny,Im wondering if some of the new guys here are asking themselves what the hell it actually is:D
