I wonder what topic hasnt been brought up on this site....thats kind of hard isnt it?Well here it goes.Any guys here ever been issued a sealing iron....all assigned to you,its like your signature. For you that dont know its a tool that prints a certain letter and number on your meter seals that you place on a band after setting a meter. Some companies may not require them. Some employees dont bother stamping the seals. Some guys will stamp a full box,so that they wont have to mess with them each time theres a meter set.Let me just get to the point,21 years plus, nobody ever asked what my seal number was, they didnt even care. But that all changed when I was brought in as a contractor to set meters, matter of fact it was one of the first questions asked of me from the other lineman who worked for the utility. Why,thats easy to explain, cause if they ran across some mistake in the field, they could trace it back to me,or if they saw the number on a seal, they could look for something that was done wrong.....then notify the foreman. One guy actually found a seal that wasnt stamped, notified the foreman.....it wasnt a big deal, but I brought up the drops being tagged subject, and the guy that told on me wasnt tagging his urd drops.Thats amazing,in reality I was tagging and stamping my stuff more than they were.Because I was being watched and they wasnt....its just part of being a contractor, your going to be watched, even if you know the ins and outs of the utility that your working for.

Those were out of date when they started sueing paint companies for lead based paint in the late 80's, those little lead seals disapeared and the irons became useless. I turned mine in years ago.

I must ask why you still have some,do you use them for whenever you run out of tooth-picks or what?:D.....and yes T-MAN I remember the lead ones, but now they are all plastic, different colors, usually gray and red,a few blue....still use sealing irons on them here.voltmeters, sealing irons, amp meters, lockband keys, lockband pullers all had to be signed for, there is a couple things that Im forgetting that you had to sign for.
