Morning Glory

I received some morning glory a couple of months ago from our ag advisor. I've never grown morning glories before. I've heard they can be a pain as a vine. The Ag teacher wanted to know what color they were going to be. Well, last week I realized there was lice on the leaves. So, I put some sevin dust on it and this week it bloomed. YAY! :D

I've always thought of morning glory as being blue, but now after reading up on morning glories, they have many many different varieties. Pretty interesting actually. For those of you that love the yard, here are pics of my morning glory.

Nice Mrs.Art,,didnt know sevin dust was that good,sometimes I put epson salt around my plants,now I have a yellow spot on my lawn and might buy some ironite,they say its good and you can use it up to 10 times per year,susposed to turn yellow into green,has anyone tried it ?

Thanks Reppy. I haven't. I just use Miracle Grow. All my yellows turn to green using it. :D

Maybe you gentlemen can tell me what I can put around my trees and the edge of my flowerbeds to keep the grass or weeds out. The Boss says we can't use the "cancer killer" stuff. That's the stuff they use to clear right-of-ways. Whatever it is called.

I heard there is something to use other than Roundup that will keep it dead longer than Roundup will and won't hurt the trees. Anyone know?

Well that one is easy,theres 3 ways,my way,the walmart way,or searching on google way.the way I do it is by shovel,I shape a circle around the tree ,lets say 8-10 feet in diameter,pull everything inside of the circle/roots.....after that is done I add mulch....every two or three weeks I again trim around the grass,if theres weeds or new roots I pull them.Round-up can get expensive,and doesnt last too long.....what ever you do dont put plastic in the ground,the tree will need all the water that it can get,plastic will stop the water from soaking into the ground.....it takes work ,Albert might help out if he's needed.:D

If theres a will ,theres a way....you might think of putting some windsor bricks around the flower bed,or the scalloped border bricks...That worked for me pretty well,with mulch...but then you need to weedeat around the windsor bricks,I bought about 4 pallets of windsor bricks from the Home Depot one year,stacked two and three high....they weigh a ton so I had them delivered....even had a flower bed about 12 feet in diameter shaped like a heart,thats where i had my roses when I was married.....below that ,about 4 feet deep I have 3 dogs buried there.I might suggest looking at youtube....gardening,they have good tips for lawn care....most people cant wind up string on a weed eater well,go to youtube.......theres pretty much nothing you can do about weeds except pulling them by the roots every once in awhile...elbow grease is needed......kind of like ants,you can buy anything you want to kill ants,but they will be back,I promise.....use really hot water on them,that might be cheaper than Round-up....not to the boiling point,that will kill the grass.....the old way was gasoline,I dont want to mention that,but I already did.:D

We have used landscape timber, but we are in the process of getting rid of them. We still have some on the side and front. It's helped alot over the years, but I'm ready for something else. Or yet, nothing at all.

I wanted a clean cut look without the fancy smancy things like brick or scolloped brick edging. Simple and clean. The Boss would only run over them anyway. :D My husband hates to go around things. It's bothersome to him...even with a zero turn. Yes, he also uses the weedeater I purchased him. However, he only does it when I mention it and the grass is knee deep around the trees. I'm grinning and I'm sure every other man thinks the same thing!

I love my yard and I like it to look clean and neat. I can't complain much because the Boss is like that too. Especially with his boat. Heh.

The other flowerbed I made is around 25 feet long and 4 feet wide,has roses inside,used a straight line as a guide,to make it straight.Cut the line with a shovel,dug about a foot down,took all the roots out,installed all types of soil ,planted roses and put mulch on top....its clean without a border,but you have to get the shovel out every few weeks and make the cut again,to stop the grass roots from entering,its not bad if you enjoy what your doing.It relaxes me,with the help of a few cold beers and a good shot or two,good way to get away from the wife.Here you can get your grass cut ,weed-eated,and edged for around 25-35 bucks,even if your yard is big...it takes them about 30 minutes at the most

If I couldn't keep it up, I'd do away with all the beds in front, cut back some hedges and leave the small trees that are growing in those extra beds. The owner's husband died several years ago and he was always out in it. It was his love, not hers I guess. Several of us have offered our help, but she won't take it. It's such an eye sore, but what do you do?

The yard ain't for everyone. It's hard work and maintenance. Ya gotta love it, I suppose.

It can be tough,here like there its humid as it can be,sticky outside.Ill be out in the yard in a few minutes..mowing,and taking out some weeds.My brother thinks I own a landscaping business,what I need to do is start one that takes out the $hit trees that have no name away from chain link fences,the ones that grow right there where you cant get to.The ones that grow into the fence itself....now thats a job.

Never had this before. How we ended up with a green Rubeckia is kind of a mystery. It came up from seed from others. I'll save them and see what happens in the future.

results are in.....awhile back I mentioned that I would buy some ironite for the yard,and I did.I had one brown spot that was really getting bad so I bought some spectricide for that,chinch bugs and grubs,two days later I spread the ironite out and watered it in...waited and waited,it took about 3 -4 weeks to really notice...and now the grass is a dark greenish color,looks healthy.So I would say that the product worked well for me,it just took awhile,its not like the 13-13-13 fertilizer I put on the yard earlier,which took 3 or 4 days to notice.Thought Id pass that info along.

Ummmmmmmm there iz anudder udder way too................ Ummmmmmmmm get a big sack of fertilizer n put it on heavy where ya want the grass n weeds to go away n dont put no water onnit. This will burn the grass plum up, weeds too .then a hoe will get it outta the ground ummmmmm it wont hurt a tree n mite even help it ummm but I aint tried this itz jus an idea that fell outta my hedbone

I know the feeling,I can but dont drink in the mornings anymore....the difference is that it was also my breakfast ....thanks for the suggestions on the fertilizer,but I am trying to get green grass,not to kill it.....I dont want to see a truck in my yard with a sign on the side saying (Poots lawn service)...but thanks anyway.
