Looking for advice..... I've kinda made up my mind but would like a second opinion( or more)

This is my story..

We have a toilet on site..... Health and safety dictates that we must have a toilet, somewhere to heat food and washing facility's..

So.. The water ran out in our toilet on Tuesday the 17 th of July we were going home for our weekend off thurs morning...

So informed the foreman he said it would be all sorted by mon 23 rd when we got back... No worries
3 days ago fri 27 th. he was tying on for me and I reminded him we,d still no water .....and could he ring up an sort it out..... Still no toilet...
This morning I went in to his office and told him that if it wasn't sorted by tomorrow , I was walking off site.....
Now ! we are in the middle of a big shut down , the lines gotta go back in wednesday ....
When we left this evening ...... Still not sorted...
I am drawing a line in the sand basically....
He can order all the gear for a 127 pole new build..( fittings etc ) order all the machinery ..

But can't sort out a f@@king toilet. And somewhere to wash your hands afterwards...

Health and safety dictates that we are required by law to have " the basics "

I've asked 3 times over two weeks to have it sorted... Nothing :(

So am I right to stop work or not ?

( it better be a good argument against ). Because as of tomorrow.

IM NOT PUTTING UP WITH IT ANY MORE..... FACT. ! !

Over 30 years a linesman and never had a more lazy useless foreman,,,,,
As much use as a chocolate fire guard.... Or an ashtray on a motorbike....

Your opinions please...... THANKS.

That has to be a first on this site:D..sounds like the title should have been $HIT OUT OF LUCK....I hate to laugh because its sort of an accident waiting to happen,a near miss....Where did this so called foreman come from, thats basic bull$hit and he cant get it together,he cant call a plumber? Id sit down in his office with him and teach the guy how to use the phone.Other than that theres not much more that I can say.....hope that you saved a few banannas or maybe even a few dozen corn cobbs.....sorry Bren.

Ummmmmmmm Hows the rest of the crew feel about the matter and are they also willing to walk if he doesnt take care of business? Has he offered any kind of excuse or just promised emptily to take care of it? Could be outta his control could also be that he dont care. I bleve I would show up and make him run me off kause I wudnt hit a lick til I saw firsthand that he was makin an effort.

My first thought was take a dump in the boss's truck but being the thoughtful guy that you are how about dropping acall to the authority that makes the rules about hygene. Over here it's supposed to be OSHA but they tend to wuss out on the less glamirus violations. After making a stink about the problem with the A B Chance cut outs breaking all they could say was show us a body. Hope your governing body is a little more receptive.

Well , firstly Poot we've quite a few younger guys that are afraid to rock the boat. ( afraid coz of the economic climate ) ...
I don't know wether he's rang to get it sorted and failed... But I do know that I'm not putting up with it no more......
I've been a foreman. With multiple crews ... And worked my butt off to look after my guys,,,
The men's safety and well Being was always my priority...
If a firm that was supposed to sort this problem let me down " this much" they wouldn't be getting any work from my company...

I don't care who is to blame for the problem... The foreman is responsible for sorting it out..

He ain't ....... So by me refusing to work untill it's sorted I'm highlighting a problem..that his bosses ain't aware of.....
At the end of the day......... It's a basic human right.... And is also the law.....

If I break the law I'm in trouble... And. So. Will. He. Be.....

I don't care who's to blame it certainly ain't me...... But if I don't do anything I am as useless as he is....

It's 2012. We walked on the moon in the. 60's. We've hadron colliders ..

And we can't get " sh@ t shifted..and clean water... Im not a cave man, give me the respect I've EARNED...............

Let the you know what hit the fan. . . .when he shows up have him haul your butt to the nearest working latrine, then when he drops you off again have one of the crew take the next ride into town and so on till the moron gets the picture. Putz around a bit in the can so as he has to wait on yer dainty fanny, if he dont tumble to the idea you need a portapotty on site he needs to be exchanged for the next goof that thinks he can ram rod a big time line gang in the wilderness.

T man.. The guys one of those jumped up " good at paper work brown nose types" he's only about
27. I won't be getting anyone to drive me to the toilet.... I won't leave the cabin( mess room ) untill it's sorted.. One of our engineers is coming over today and our foreman normally runs around like a dog with 2 ****s when engineers are about.... So he will be petrified that he will be shown in a bad light.... We cover for each other normally.... But I've had it with this joker...

The clue is in my job tittle Line "MAN". Time to make a stand...

Hi ho hi ho it's off to work I go.... Keep ya posted... :)

Annoying that it has to even happen this way. It puts you under unnecessary pressure.
Is this the same company that was trying to reduce your working conditions earlier?

Same company....

You know who... Preach safety safety safety.......

When I complain "nicely at first," then three days ago pleaded with him to get it sorted...... And phone someone.... Nothing.... Yesterday gave him notice that if it wasn't sorted I wasn't wor king.

This morning got my safety gear ppe on and told him I was ready to work the second it was sorted.

Told to get changed. And get off site..... I'm at digs now... :(

Don't think I was unreasonable expecting a toilet on site and water to wash my hands afterwards.?

NONE SINCE THE 17th OF JULLY.... Ah well we shall see what happens..

It's a dam shame it's gotta get like that. Work could be getting done. . .you had a reasonable request and you waited for a positive response, can't figure why the little guy is taking a stand for his position, what's he trying to prove?

Hope it works out for ya Bren.
Good luck.

Thanks T man.....

I try and use the carrot where ever possible. But some times ya gotta use the stick..

Wouldn't respect my self if I let people walk over me.... :(
Big shame, beautiful day to be up a pole... Sunny and a cool breeze.... Ah well ..

Even when the toilets are fixed , the relationship between me an the foreman will prob never be the same.... Que Serra Serra .... I've worked for plenty. An he won't be the last..:D

Bren,

I had one hell of a discussion (row) with an health and safety manager at a well known airport in the south of the country, sort of towards Brighton (without naming it).

We have been involved in a project down there and as there are perfectly good facilities on every floor of every building we are of the roof of, I saw no need to hire in toilet/washing facilities and try and find space to plant them. He took an awful lot of persuading that we had provided adequate facilities for the guys (because we were using his !)

Stick with your argument, I certainly wouldn't work in those conditions

Benin told the toilets fixed. YAHOO !

But apparently I'm gonna lose a days pay...and get a written warning.....

There were toilets within ten miles of the site so they don't need to supply any ?, W.T. F.

I dont think so ....
The company has these 5 golden rules ... It's written every where...
1. Be your brothers keeper
2. Accept safety challenges
3. Hold the handrail ..
4.reverse park.
5. Safety before profit..

So I pull them up on 1, 2, and 5...... And they are gonna disciplin ME. !

I don't think so. 😉

I hear ya guys.... :)

If i lose a days pay. ( which I wont )

I will be going to the toilet 10 miles away. Twice a day....

I reckon 40 miles round trip a day is quite reasonable. When we've a line switched out and they want it back in tomorrow ...

I will keep ya posted.. If they try those bully boy tactics on me. They are in for a fight.
As Poot might say " I'm as Stubun as an onry mule " Buckaroo Bren..

Talk about alienating your workforce. This sounds as bad as when I was doing work at a company called Deveron where they wouldn't let us use their toilets and suggested we go outside and do the toilet behind bushes.

In your position I'd not be working hard for a ****ty company like that Bren.

Im getting a little confused, whats the deal with the toilets situations in the U.K....we have our issues with companies but they will allow a man to sit on a confortable toilet...that being said Ill tell you a real life toilet story that happened here in the 80s....a black lineman was working in a neighborhood which a foreman lived in,he had to go,so he knocked on the foremans door and asked to use his restroom, the sorry foreman told him no,he said he couldnt allow a black person to use his toilet....I believe the lineman thought he was kidding, but he wasnt...I used to work with the lineman in question....that my friends is pretty sorry.

I still like my idea of having "Mr. I'll order toilets tomorrow" take me to the crapper in his car. . .carry on a "nice day" or " what ya gonna do this weekend" chat with him, a reall boring chat, keep him busy a couple times a day. Have the crew work the same show. You guys should have a throne near by, better than the Queen in no time. :D
