Any of you working with a utility still using the wire wheels, the type where you could mount on the side of the truck and have wire rolled up by hydraulics, any trucks still being made with this on them?

thats what Im talking about,I dont know if the utilities are still buying them, cause the contractors are doing the larger jobs these days......guess nobody uses the clutch while putting a truck into PTO these days.

Ummmmmmmm they also make a rope drum for the same point of attachment like a capstain head. and you can wind a bull line round it and pull the world.I have pulled in 3 phase 750 Primary cable with one for over 20 spans and around 3 corners. Its slow but sure

They sure came in handy, musta been more than a few hand injuries, winding up old wire that had breaks ,crimps,ect...they wernt used too much kind of like the hand held anchor machines, that were tough at times.Of course I could install an anchor alone with that machine.:D

We call em take-up reals and capstans. Use take up real for non-tension work, Ive seen em explode and have pieces flying everywhere when used the wrong way. We have another name here for the capstain head, but it's politically incorrect to post it here.....

Still use em often....
