This one is always interesting, its true that it means alot to look good and that folks will judge you on the first time that they see you,but sometimes they make bad decisions themselves, and dont have to be with the ones they promote. Im sure some of you have seen it,where a lineman goes in for a certain job,and your bosses will determine if he or if he wont be picked for the job. Many of times I seen these guys go in for interviews, all or most of them dressed sharp,so you assume they are the cream of the crop......usually they are good guys and all but when they are out in the field where it really shows, a bell rings in your head.....like how did this $hit happen....one guy that I thought could talk a really good game was up on a pole with me while building a 277/480 volt bank,he wasnt doing bad.....until...yea that word..until we installed the wildlife protection, seems like a squirrel guard got the best of him,so he throws it onto the ground, even blames the guard....hope you aint laughing, but I did.under my breath.....how can a guy that has been in this type of work for years let that happen to him,I mean he did get the job that he went in for, looked great and all.....I GIVE UP......at least it wasnt the pancake type of guard.:D:D:D

I take the opposite view that guys who are generally well put together and take pride in their appearance also take pride in their work. This extends to not only clothes worn but one's physical body. Nothing worse than having a climbing job on the right-of-way and seeing the new hire pull up in his pickup with it leaning to one side. Sure he may be the lord's gift to line work in terms of knowledge but at the end of the day, that wrench doesn't turn itself at the top of the pole.
