Job stopped today... As the helicopter was placng the pole on the ground. An R.A.F. Jet went over the top of him..... It was pure luck that. He wasn't in the flight path of the jet ... Which was probably doing. 400 mph.... Turns out the helicopter company hadn't logged the flight path details with the aviation authority.....

Imagine a jet hitting a helicopter with a pole hanging from it.
The paper work would have taken ages.

And knowing my luck I wouldn't have my camera with me.

So result for us linemen...... Early finish... YAHOO. !!!!!!

We reckon the jet missed by around 300 or 400 feet.

Dunno what type of plane... We were un hooking the pole... So couldn't hear it coming with the noise of roaters... Then it screamed above the helli.. Got a big scare... I first thought the helicopter had blown up...

Man it was close... Clean pants though.. :D

I know the feeling Bren, back in the early 80s when I was in the army stationed in Germany I was on a mountaintop.....heard a loud noise, turned around to see the jet, looked the other direction as it flew past and just like that it was gone....that was in the 80s..and there were no strict limits over there as to breaking the sound barrier....here in the USA you never see a jet breaking that sound barrier......put it this way....if your in a war/battle and a jet comes along to take you out,you cant even wipe half your a$$ cause by then your a dead man.:D

Was climbing a 300ft radio tower in Herts (UK) a few years ago and was about half way up when two fast jets spotted us. Not funny when they fly past close enough to make eye contact with the crew !

Lucky your helo wasn't down here Bren, my part of the world has been a no fly zone for over a month for anything other than "scheduled flights" and emergency/services aircraft as a result of the little sports day they've had in London.

Part of the show I'm working on at the moment has daily military fly-pasts, and some of them have rather naughtily used their afterburners, which has led to complaints from random whiners about their dogs being constipated and their goldfish dying as a result of our noise.

Small difference..... At least you knew they were coming... And at what time..

We thought we had " clear airspace " He flew exactly where the Heli was 5 minutes before.

I think all helicopter jobs will be put on hold .... Untill they do the usual.. BOLT THE STABLE DOOR AFTER THE HORSE HAS BOLTED....... "INVESTIGATION " ......
