Spent today doing pole top rescue...

I found it very good.. And for anyone interested.. The whole time we were on the pole we were attached via a block on to a safety rope... We were permanently attached to the pole at all times... All my guys are very experienced climbers.. But we were never at any point allowed to free climb.. An when we got up to the rescue dummy.. We had to have two points of attachment before rescuing could commence..

We are now trained for one year.... Got to be retrained every 12 months...

Tomorrow we have first aid training ...

So seems we are being taught the right way AT LAST....

What is very annoying.... The last company preached safety safety safety... Over 3 years no first aid no pole top rescue.... F@@king hypocrites..

We have a saying in Ireland " they talk a good job ". Really annoys me when big company's act like that.. Gladly as I've been a linesman " for ever " .... I know the difference... And in general It's improving..

First aid was on three yearly refreshers and that's uk law assuming it's the full FAW course.

I don't believe it's changed, I'm re-assessed every year because of defib and O2 training but that's under different rules.

Good to hear they take it seriously,

Yeah we had a really enjoyable course today.. Did de fib as well.
Gotta be done every three years as well...

It's funny that contractors do better training than SSE. A " so called " utility ... Glad to be back in the real world. An not the SSE fantasy world...

I think most of us over here would see a turkey in a santa suit before we would see a De-fib...just my guess:(

Reppy we have had a de-fib unit in each Lead Lineman's truck for the last four years. So things can change someone just has to want to change.

Well get your finger oooot an come down here them.... Plenty of room for one more. :)

We were putting the fact we hadn't done pole top rescue and first aid on EVERY RISK ASSESMENT.

It covers your @rse if something goes wrong and some one gets hurt.

At the bottom of SSE ,s risk ASSESMENT there's a box put it in there every day... Because some one will eventually get hurt ( un fortunately ).

I'm dead serious.. :(

If ya want to get a start with us down here pm me and I will pass your cv on...

£17.30 for a LE1 :)

Moved in to new house this evening....

The stress of running around after work contracts sorted with estate agent.. Then shopping for duvets , sheets, pillows... Etc etc.. Time for a nice relaxing meal. :)

Glad to hear it's going well out west.

It's also good to hear the first aid covers defibs as well. I don't suppose for one minute there's one one every job but at least if you know what is does, how to use it and what to expect when it's used then it's a good start.

You could always try a set of jump leads from the nearest lamp post :)
