In a situation where a lineman is seriously hurt or killed while on the job,who makes the call to the wife/family..is it the police if it is a fatality, the hospital if its real serious..a rep. of the company? What part does a supervisor play in this...is it limited to the investigation only? What will he be expected to say if a safety violation was commited...who will he answer to? And what will the people he answers to have to say,if any?Does it stop with him?

In most cases the supervisor or another company manager would go to the home and personally give the news to the family members. In my experience in the last 30 years the company will never admit fault just promise the family they will be taken care of. Once OSHA, the union, or any other investigator starts looking the scene over the company starts getting nervous, and slowly starts pulling away from helping the family. Once an attorney is involved from any party, or about a year goes by all contact with the family is cut off, and the company no longer is seen or heard from. At that point no mater what has actually taken place, it becomes employee misconduct.
