Heres one I havent seen..... has your foreman taken a few days off and was replaced by a fellow lineman, which would make him temp.foreman, and he turned out lots worse than your reg. foreman....You know the guy dont you..or was it the other way around...he might have been better than the reg.

I've seen both sides of the coin. Although usually when it is just a day here and there you usually will not see a difference from their day to day attitudes. A good lineman with a good work ethic and good attitude will continue to do what he normally does since he takes pride in his work and tries to do a good job. What I find funny, sad, at times disgusting is the half hearted lineman that has plenty of ability and knowledge but refuses to meet his potential as a lineman yet when he gets a chance to act as a lead for an extended period of time is totally different worker and expects more out his crew than he wanted to do as a lineman.
Where I work they like to give people chances to act as a lead when the need arises, and I think it is a good thing to do. I think it is even better to do it when there are not any foreman jobs coming up in the near future. This way you can get a better feel of how the lineman will be as a lead since he will not be trying to impress management for an open job on the books.
Of course much depends on the age of the lineman, maturity level, and company structure as well. Some companies still have true Foremen/Lead Lineman while others have working foremen that are little more than linemen that get paid a little extra to do paper work. Much also depends on the culture and attitude of the work force and how management treats the Foremen as well.
