Today I found out that my van ain't so good at floating...

Sank up to the axles in welsh mud.. ( tractor pulled us out.... ).

Dunno wether it was the vehicle OR THE NUT BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. ?

They come with the stripes because we are just as likely to be crashed into on a minor back road ( un lit ) as a motorway..

And why ya don't believe we've fords..... ( is a mystery )

We had them in Scotland as well... ????????????

My truck is a Ranger (similar to the F150 for the guys across the pond) and several of my guys have transit connects which are about half the size of Bren's one.

The hi-vis markings on the back are a requirement of our road traffic law for any vehicle that may be used in works on or near the highway. As Bren said the minor roads are often worse than the motorways.

I was watching wheeler dealer about some English guys that buy cars , fix em up and sell them for profit. The roads are narrow and the safety rules are even tougher than we have here. They bought a replica cobra and had to do all sorts of stuff to make it pass an inspection just to get a license. I would agree that work crews need all the help they can can get to stay safe on those roads.

All UK vehicles have to under go an inspection every year to prove its road worthy. ( an M.O.T. )
" motorcycles included " It has to be mechanically perfect or they aren't allowed on the road. They even check exhaust emissions ....

And I like wheeler dealers as well.. ( Ed the mechanic does good work ) ...

I guess it all makes sense now, thinking back when I lived in Europe I recall that you lads dont open doors for woman, the man goes first in case there is danger...unless it happens to be the Queen. So if the steering wheel is on the right side of the vehicle, where do you gents place the inspection stickers? If they are also on the right wouldnt that be kind of hard to see if you is a cop?

I'll say Ed is good he changed out a rusty frame on a Morgan in 130 hours. So it would pass that M.O.T.

Bren you guys should be the experts...here back in the USA,when we get that sinking feeling its usually because we didnt walk the area out...and 98% of the time theres nobody to pull you out...so you have to make the call...now by cell phones...but then by radio, and everyone and their brother knew you made a booboo.:D

Ford Transit is my favourite type of van. Extremely roomy for the driver and passengers, and actually comfortable for someone my size to drive. When I was buying my first brand new van I tried all the brands for size and none of them came close to the Transit.

Your van would have been a lot deeper than that in England Bren.

Even over on the Eastern Side it's proper wet.

My village had 8 - 10 inches of water on both routes out on Tuesday morning. No one in their right mind would venture onto mud at the moment, even with a 4x4.

I think Wales escaped better than some of Western England but they really got it. I understand some villages are still cut off by water and are receiving supplies by boat.
