The winch an tensioner have turned up on our Welsh job.

Looks like we will be stringing soon . Probably within the next couple of weeks.

Nice gear Bren, must say it dose look VERY familure:D,hope u take care with it,as u can see from the Picts of the red winch there is a sign that points out the obvious pinch point between the bull wheels when pulling in(the ridges between the runs are very sharp),I am sure you an the guys noticed this but thought it worth mentioning coz it has eaten fingers before:nightmare:,not bad puller though works like a horse.used it MENY times with no probs:)

Yes Paul....

I'm well aware of where the gear has come from. Lol.

And who's gear it is, ;).
Not as green as I'm cabbage looking.

Say hello to mr Turnbull when ya next see him. Tell him Bren says hi.

Shouldn't that machine be covered in big wire safety guards that prevent proper use? And signs. Really obvious and dumb signs like ones that imply you'd put your head in between those wheels.

When yous guys start your wiring which end do you an you gang get?winch or tensioner?are you pulling in bonds with new conductor or are you guys bringing in old conductor with the new conductor attached?would like to see some Picts of the stringing:)

We are building a brand new 33 kv line. 200 mm , the center wire has a fibre optic core. So we will we be running bonds through first. I think we will be stringing one wire at a time.
I've a feeling they will pull up the middle wire first as there's a bit of messing around with the fibre core. The sag chart reckons around 2.3 tonne,s ... We've a digital dyno to play with.
As we can't cut the middle wire at angles. It's gonna be section " from full drum to full drum " and then the fibre will have to stripped back to enable jointing. While we are doing that. They can crack on with the two outter phases. They are more straight forward.
It depends on what way they decide to do it. Still not been told for sure.

As we do it. I will take the ipad into work so as I can get good pics,.

Did something similar a few years back but was a 132kv tri-dent line with fibre in the middle phase it ran from wishaw to forth, dose take time.worst part was having to built scaffolding around section pole so splicers could splice fibres & they even had it all weather proofed with a heater in it.while we where outside in the cold & wet still prepping to string:mad:
