Call it what you want,has anyone here seen a tap at midspan on the service drops....using the 3 prong spreaders.

Huh? You mean services mid spanned on secondaries right? Yeah, seen em, done em, what is it you want to know? That is if I understand your question.......

The house drops....1/0....the tap was #4 triplex/twist feeding a small shack in the back yard.

Got them done them and hate them. Company finally started running a guy wire below 4/0 to put the ladder on.

We have a lot of mid span taps because the services here are not allowed to run over there neighbours property. Most of our new O.H. secondary is spun bus, which is easy to make mid span taps, but on the older stuff sometimes you have to get creative.
