Edmond Electric line workers receive certification

EDMOND — Edmond Electric announced this week that nine members of its electric distribution line crew were awarded a Certification in Electric Distribution Supervision from the Municipal Electric Systems of Oklahoma.

Edmond Electric employees who successfully completed the Electric Supervisor Development program are Robert Austin, project coordinator; Wes Bennett, lead journeyman lineman; Curtis Conley, journeyman lineman; Jeff Dan, journeyman lineman; Shannon Dodd, lead journeyman lineman; Brett Griffin, crew supervisor; Travis Sallee, lead journeyman lineman; Clint Seaman, journeyman lineman; and Josh White, journeyman lineman.

Dean Sherrick, distribution superintendent for Edmond Electric, said, “The MESO Electric Supervisor Development Program is part of our succession plan. It is an effort to increase the likelihood that current members of the workforce will be competitive when promotional opportunities occur and to ensure the availability of talent is abundant with qualified candidates.”

“Our succession plan is an ongoing, dynamic process that helps align our organization’s goals and human capital needs,” Sherrick said. “It is our goal to have an effective and highly focused strategy that results in continued performance excellence.”

The MESO certification recognizes the completion of four years professional development studies while performing their electric line distribution duties. These studies included 200 hours of classroom training in municipal utility supervision skills, 100 hours of study in electric distribution management and maintenance, and 100 hours of continuing education in electric distribution operations.

MESO is the statewide trade association of Oklahoma’s 67 public power systems. MESO provides power supply, engineering assistance, energy management assistance, training and mutual aid programs for its member municipalities and the 340,000 people who receive municipal power across Oklahoma.
