This Labor Day weekend, Take Back America is encouraging Americans to "Rally in Remembrance" of those who fought to ensure fair pay, safe working conditions, labor protections for our children, reasonable working hours, over-time pay, and so much more. Also, we are asking Americans to rally to show their support for Unions today, to show that we still value workers rights and that we demand those rights continue to be protected....

The very first labor day was organized by the Central Labor Union and was held in New York City on September 5, 1882. On June 28, 1894, the US Congress made it a federal holiday. The point to Labor Day was to celebrate the true backbone of our nation, its workers, whose hard-work built this country; as well as to garner support for the Labor Movement, which fought hard to ensure worker's rights and protections. Without the Labor Union and the Unions it formed the middle-class would never have grown as it did. So many of the things we take for granted, from 40-hour work weeks to fair pay to child labor laws, are all the result of the tireless efforts Unions to ensure that workers are treated with dignity and respect.

However, Unions, the product of the labor movement, are losing ground. They're under attack from the corporatists and, in many cases, the very people they were formed to protect. Major retailers, like Target and Wal- Mart, not only suppress and prevent Union organization in their own companies, they encourage their suppliers to do so as well. US legislatures, like Jane Cunningham-MO and Mike Lee-UT, want to repeal child-labor laws.

As Unions have lost ground and support, jobs are being shipped overseas, wages are diminishing, and the workers are expected to work harder and longer for those plummeting wages. Meanwhile, corporate profits continue to grow; presently, the CEO to employee pay ration is 317:1.

It does not matter where you gather for this rally; be it your state Capitol building, your local Wal-Mart or Target, the home office of a major US bank or an Oil Company, or Chiquita Banana or Dole Fruits...Just get out there because as Unions lose, we lose.

I hope Union members don’t let their laurels down and keep fighting back for the rights other members died for. I see it more and more, this trade is the best job in town and there is only one reason people try to get in.

If you live in or near the Allentown, Pa. area the "Rally in Remembrance" will be taking place this Sunday at the Allentown office of Pat Toomey. The reason for this selection is that Toomey, the jackass that he is, supports the "Right to Work (for less)"
