    Default oddball transformer sizes

    Featured Sponsor

Has anyone seen any odd ball transformer sizes or wondered why they have some sizes that are urd and not overhead. When I was younger you didnt see 37.5 kva urd transformers, later on you might see a few...Ive never seen a overhead 37.5 kva.Overhead transformers were 5kva,10kva,15kva 25kva,75kva,100kva,167kva,250kva,333 kva and 500kva...urd 25kva,37.5kva,50kva,75kva,100kva,167kva,250kva,and thats around these parts.Later on in another state there were larger Urd transformers that Ive worked on,So I guess what Im asking is if anybody has worked a kva size between those sizes that I have typed down,or is there such an animal as a 37.5 overhead....I cant see why not.

Ok how about this one....how many 167kva transformers or above have you seen get replaced due to overload?..maybe just a handful?

I haven't had to replace 167 because of overload but we also have some 333KVA Tx also never replace them either.

we probably have more 37.5's overheads than just about any other size. over the years we have pulled down several 7.5 kva overhead pots.

No sir it was not a mistake, taken down several old 7.5 kva pole mount transformers. since 7.5 is exactly halfway betweene 5 and 10 it fit the bill back when the loads were very low, 5 was too small and 10 was to big, (lol a 10 kva trans too big). Just like 37.5 is halfway betweene 25 and 50, alot of times a 25 is too small and a 50 would be overkill.
