SHADOW ON THE CLOUDS

It was one of those nights
You've been out in a thousand times
After a thunderstorm's been raging
If you've been there, you know the kind

Where the clouds are still hanging low
Just taunting their release
The wind still blowing blustery gusts
Pushing heavy into the trees

Another busted cross arm
From a tree that gave up the fight
Another sloppy right of way
On a pole the rest of the night

The only light around
Is the spot light down below
Piercing threw the rainy mist
The only comfort that you know

You've done this job a thousand times
But you never seemed to know
How that spot light shinning up on you
Was a signal from below

Until you laid back in your belt
To make that one last tie
And blinked the rain out of your eyes
That drifted into the sky

And on the clouds you saw a shape
Cut by rays of light
A lonely lineman in shadow form
Working in the night

The rippled energy of natures force
Moving swiftly threw the air
Catching quickly the silhouette figure
That you see hanging there

You make no notice and keep on working
It's not for you to ponder
Your tasks at hand and you have it to do
You have no time to wonder

But before you go you chance a look
A glimpse to satisfy
That it's not only your shadow you see
Hanging in the sky

But light from above and divine shadow too
Being cast by guiding light
From Heaven on the other side
Of the clouds with you tonight
