I hope you here me now
For dinners been ready
for 2 hours
and my husband
is out there
I never could sleep
as I pray for him
That he is ok
His job is dangerous
I get scared
That lightning
seems so near
It's been along road
Non-stop ringing of the phone
This is the profession he choose
Even though I would rather have him home
Because mother nature she don't give in
It's lonely knowing
he out there
These scary thoughts I can't control
I pray he comes home to me
He dreams of poles day and night
work sometimes consumes his mind
I've heard some tragic tales
So I beg to him everyday
wear his safety gear
for his kids and my sake
Oh lord, my husband is out there
It's going on 4 am
No sign of him
I still can't go to bed
until I see him
Finally at 5 am
he pulls into the drive
He greets me with tired eyes and aching bones
As we stumble off to bed
Wondering what the next few years will bring
Knowing another night will come when I am asking dear lord
and pacing the hardwood floor
I just thank god for him
