I went to work that awful day, the sky was cold and wet and gray

Performing the tasks of a normal workday

What could happen, No one could say

I ended the day and just got home

When came a ring on the telephone

There had been an accident, I heard her say

One of our lineman is being rushed away

He was doing his job, when he got caught

In lines with electricity, They were still running hot

His partners went to him and gave first aid

The one thing in their minds, They were very afraid

His breathing had stopped, he would need much more aid

The ambulance came and took him away

While his co-workers and friends began to pray

He was hospitalized for quite a while

He even lost a limb

But with his spirit, his strength, and his attitude

This didn’t stop him

He returned to work, and life goes on

What a different story, if he were gone

The man up high, the man on the wire

Should never forget, he’s working with fire
