It's starting to rain;
It's starting to thunder;
The phone starts to ring;
I don't have to wonder.
The voice on the line
Asks if he's home---
Here we go again
Another night alone.
On go his boots,
On goes his slicker;
He's been gone five minutes,
And my lights start to flicker.
Alone in the dark,
Half-scared to death;
Every time it thunders
I hold my breath.
Scared and afraid---
Will he be alight
Working out there
On this kind of night?
I hear his truck
Pull in the drive;
I thank the Lord
HE's still alive
But every day he risks
His life again---
Have you guessed who I am ?
I'm a lineman's wife.
My husband gave this to me when he became a lineman 11 years ago. I didn't know
how true it is until we got married that year. So this for all the wives out there.
