I really enjoy the powerlineman web page. It is becoming quite popular with the linemen at Entergy. I am a Safety Specialist with Entergy Arkansas and have been a lineman for 30+ years. After reading the poems other linemen have shared, I would like to share a tribute that I wrote to my wife several years ago. I'm sure other linemen and their wives can relate to this as much as my wife and I do.
A Tribute to a Lineman's Wife
No one ever told her it would be easy being a lineman's wife.
She's the one who whispers a silent prayer for his safe return,
when he goes to work in the middle of the night.
She's the one who tells the kids on those stormy nights
that daddy has to go to work and assures them he'll be OK and
will be home later.
She's that talented person who keeps the kids quite, the TV down,
and answers the phone on the first ring so he can get some sleep
after working several sixteen-hour days.
She's the one who gets the kids to ball practice,
takes them to Sunday School, and even makes Thanksgiving
and Christmas a success while daddy's working Tornadoes,
Ice Stores, Hurricanes, or Call-outs.
Since there isn't an award that can be given for all the nights she has spend alone while he was working or a plaque for all the things she has done to keep her Lineman going over the years, I just want to say "Thanks" to my wife and all the others.
I know because I'm a Lineman.
