Recently we had had a lineman that I knew from another headquarters get killed patrolling a downed primary line. The line was down and the 100 mph winds we had that night blew the line 90 degrees from its original course. It was still energized and he walked right in to it. This man had over thirty years of line experience and was very safe. The company I work for made a report and tried to find out from 20 other utilities what policy they have for patoling downed lines. My company says that no one had a real guideline. They are talking about some kind of sensor to wear on your belt to tell you when you are close to energized lines but this is as far as things have progressed. Could anybody tell me what your policy is and if you think it is good enough. thank you
