It was a violent accident. They were changing out a backyard transformer using pole mount capsin, bull rope, and pole/transformer gin. Lowered old transformer and new transformer was part of the way up pole. Pole gin failed, appeared to break at the casting where the ratchet handle fastens to tighten the nylon webbing securely to pole. The pole gin caught on
crossarm brace as it fell, with the weight of transformer on it, snapping the crossarm above the two lineman. Had 3 phase 336 mcm, a feeder line. Part of the arm which had a phase still attached was pulled down onto one of the men, laying on his neck. The feeder never operated and dispatch took several minutes to drop feeder. It was sickening...man never had a chance. Has anyone ever heard of any problems with the Hasting pole/transformer gin failing?
