About 5 years ago I was called out to check on a pole that was on fire. Sure enough when I got there the top of the pole was on fire but the primary (single phase) was still hot. I decided to lift a hot clamp and kill that section of line. I did so and while walking back to the pickup the top of the pole broke off and the now dead primary line fell on the truck. By the way this was a slack span crossing the road. I killed it on one side and the other side of the road was where the pole was on fire. The fire was caused by bad suspension insulators (grey 15kv with aluminum base).
