John Murphy
1968 - 2007
John Murphy, 39, beloved husband, father and son, died Saturday Sept. 22, 2007, while at work.
Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Friday in Greenwood Chapel. Interment: Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Funeral Home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the next time you see an Oncor lineman, please go up to them and shake their hands and tell them, "Thanks." These men and women risk their lives every day to bring power to the residents of Fort Worth and Dallas.
John was born Feb. 7, 1968, to Charley and Mary Murphy. He graduated from Everman High in 1986. He started working for Oncor, then Texas Electric, in 1986 reading meters in Arlington for seven years. In 1993, he moved to the line trucks and became a senior lineman in 1998. John eventually moved to the trouble department and became a senior troubleshooter in 2002. It was not unusual for John to work 36 to 48 hours straight during a storm, come home and get eight hours of rest and then head back out for another round. He was tireless and dedicated to restoring power to his community. When he wasn't working, he spent his free time loving his wife and riding four-wheelers with his sons and friends. Every year he loved to go to Kansas and help his Uncle Dennis with harvest; he considered this a vacation. John was a dedicated employee, a devoted husband and a loving father. And he loved working those power lines.
Survivors: Wife of 17 years, Stacey; son, Cade Murphy, 5; stepson, Tanner Mayo, 19, all of Aledo; parents, Charley and Mary Murphy of Burleson; brothers, Craig Murphy of Fort Worth and Jason Murphy and wife, Judy, of Joshua; nieces, Ashley Baker, Catherine Murphy and Carly Murphy; favorite uncle, Dennis Murphy and wife, Vicky, of Healy, Kan.; in-laws, Larry and Carol Baker of Aledo; best friend and drinking buddy, Darrell Dumas of Aledo; and several more uncles, aunts and cousins.
