I was working the midnight run out of downtown Cincy on a Sunday morning. My regular partner was off, so I had an extra man with me who was driving.

We were working late when we received a "N.O." call in one of the eastern suburbs. Since it was about 8:30 a.m. and was a quite sunny morning we figured a squirrel would be the culprit. Upon arriving in the area we noticed a cut-out lid hanging with a blown 65t fuse. It is our policy to ride out the line when possible to check for a cause. Could be most anything. Since there were several streets on this fuse, it took a few minutes to patrol, but there in the next span lay a freshly killed grey squirrel in the street , just off the curb.

As my partner stopped the truck this customer was off her porch and at the truck window in a flash! She wanted to know what took so long and what was the cause. The drive said,"There is your problem lady". Upon looking at the dead animal she says" Oh no, I hope it's not our pet squirrel Katie that we feed"! My quick witted partner tells her that if she has been feeding that squirrel we will bill her for lost revenue plus any damage to the transformer. I'm bitting my tongue to keep from laughing! This lady was even more quick witted. Walking over to give our friend a good once-over she says "O, I'm sure that's NOT Katie!" She got the last laugh!
