Submitted By - Dennie Shiers It’s bitter cold and raining and there is ice on the ground

People are complaining because the power lines are down

The weather is getting worse with no end in sight

There’s already half a million people who don’t have no lights

His children lie in there sleeping while he gathers all his things

He knows he’ll be leaving when the telephone rings

The work is hard and dangerous but he doesn’t miss a beat

His body is cold and numb from his head to his feet

He’s growing tired and weary, his strength is almost gone

Yet he refuses to stop until all the power is on

A hand line and his climbing gear he presses on to the next pole

The long hours and bad weather are starting to take its toll

His bucket truck is useless with inaccessible poles all around

He’s tired but relentless determined to restore power to this town

What’s his motivation? I’ve heard some people ask

What could make a man perform such a dreaded task

It can’t be for the money because it don’t outweigh the pain

The Legacy of the Lineman is why he plays the game.
